Schumann Piano Concerto with Horst Stein/Bamberger Symphoniker in 1993, I was very amazed that it was a "complete perfect performance". Not to mention the technique, the performance was burning up without losing control of emotions. The finest beautiful tone that other pianist can never play...

In the first place, she played this piece very good at 11 years old. So, I think she can afford to play this concerto. However, in her performance at Opera City this time, there were some mistouches that she couldn't have done before, and some people may have felt her aging. But in Mito, This is Argerich !! Both days were great performance. Especially on 19th, I think it was the one of the best Schumann Concerto performances ever. She also said, "It was the best I've ever play."

There was no conductor in this performance. The first performance/recording without  conductor was Beethoven No. 2 and Haydn's Concerto with London Sinfonietta in 1980. I asked her about this recording, she said that she did not conduct at all, just started with the sign of Liddell/concertmaster.

Schumann's Concerto, what will happen ? The performance started at Mr. Toyoshima's sign, and I didn't have to worry about anything Rather, when she plays the finest phrase, the orchestra responded perfectly. If there was a conductor, he/she might suppress the music. The conductor may be superfluous because it is a group of masters.

After the performance, one performer said, "As Maisky said, the conductor is like a condom. It's dangerous without it, but it's more comfortable."
