@@For this concert, the "Maestro Backscreen MBS-10," designed by Mr. Miura to prevent lighting reflections from the piano's lid, was used.
Particularly noteworthy is the orchestra's flutist, Sebastian Jacot. Modern flutes have evolved to produce the most brilliant and flashy sound possible, but I absolutely hate that sound; the flute should be a woodwind! The beautiful woodwind sound of Mr. Kanda of the NHK Symphony Orchestra is my ideal. Yet Sebastian, despite playing such a glittering instrument, produced a woodwind resonance! I was amazed in Mito, but he was also wonderful in Oita.
Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1. Argerich has performed this and Prokofiev's Third Concerto numerous times, and having heard it nearly 30 times, I can say that truly masterful performances are not so many. The second movement always makes me feel like I'm in heaven. Simple melodies reveal musicality most clearly, and this time it was a truly transcendent performance, executed with a perfect balance of p`pp`ppp. This feat was undoubtedly made possible by Mr. Yamamoto's tuning. She herself said, "I paid close attention to that while playing."
